Choosing The Right Nail Salon Air Purifier

By Tonia Michael

Buying a nail salon air purifier is essential to protect the health of both employees and clients. In nail salons many chemicals are used and these linger in the air. The fumes from polishes, hardeners, acrylics and and adhesives have been proved to have a negative effect on health. There are a choice of units available on the market which are designed specifically to deal with the problems experienced in salons.

Research conducted on technicians working in salons revealed that they were being exposed to a higher level of airborne chemicals than recommended. This was causing problems such as sore eyes, headaches, scratchy throats and problems with breathing. Clients going to salons that do not have a means of purifying the air often complain of headaches and dizziness.

Business owners need to take this seriously as it can affect the success of their business. Employees who are experiencing health problems can be a liability rather than an asset to a business. Customers should be able look forward to their appointment as a time to relax and unwind and not to worry about the air they will be breathing.

Salons are often fairly small and owners will attempt to keep doors open to help air to circulate. Unfortunately the level of pollutants in the air is too high for this to be a successful way of dealing with the problem. A unit which can operate day and night to eliminate airborne chemicals is the only really effective method of ensuring clean air.

Another problem in salons is the tiny particles which are released into the air when nails are sanded. The filter needs to be powerful enough to deal with these particles as well as others such as mold spores, dust, pollen, bacteria and hair. It is worth choosing a really good filter which does not need to be replaced too frequently. Maintenance is necessary with any unit but this should be as simple and convenient as possible.

The size of a salon is another consideration when choosing a unit. If it is large with a number of technicians working in the area, a few units may be needed. If the area is small, one unit will usually suffice. Positioning of the unit also needs to be considered. It needs to be unobtrusive, not too noisy and yet situated in such a way as to be most effective. Many units are portable, enabling them to moved moved around the shop easily if necessary.

There are certain high volume times in salons such as over weekends when more clients are being seen. At such times, the rate at which pollutants are being removed should be able to be adjusted. The unit should be able to be turned to the highest speed at these times or left on a low setting over night so that it may absorb lingering chemical fumes from the day.

When choosing a nail salon air purifier, the highest priority is to select a unit which will effectively remove chemicals. This will mean that the working environment for technicians is improved. Clients will also be able to look forward to their appointments, without fear of suffering from headaches and other unpleasant effects from exposure to chemicals.
